It feels like a movie set, yet at Auberge Ravoux, the only place where the painter lived that has been preserved in its original state, everything is authentic. Van Gogh’s house in Auvers-sur-Oise
This is where Van Gogh settled upon arriving in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, returning from the south of France where he had been hospitalized. The painter created more than 80 works here during the final 70 days of his life. His room, number 5, located in the attic, where time seems to have stood still, vibrates more than ever with the soul of its most famous guest. More than just an excursion, your visit to this place will feel like a pilgrimage.
In an adjacent room, a film retraces the artist's stay in Auvers through his paintings, excerpts from his correspondence, and period photographs.
And on the ground floor, the dining room, with its warm and authentic atmosphere, welcomes guests from all over the world. This restaurant has remained unchanged since Van Gogh’s time, with its waxed oak furniture, wine rack, and linen towels, like a moment suspended in time. The menu, meanwhile, has been modernized under the guidance of Anthony Zabay, offering platters of cheese and charcuterie, simple, artisanal products, always wonderfully paired with the sommelier’s selections.
